Urgent Req to Protect Election Integrity, Postal Independence, and Voter Access
To: Rep. Moore, Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee
From: A verified voter in Layton, UT
September 25
I am writing as a concerned constituent to express my firm opposition to recent attempts by the executive branch to use federal agencies, specifically the United States Postal Service (USPS), to restrict vote-by-mail processes, interfere with state-managed voter rolls, and federalize election administration.
Under Article I, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution (the Elections Clause), the authority to prescribe the times, places, and manner of holding federal elections is explicitly granted to state legislatures and Congress—not the President. Executive attempts to mandate federal pre-approval lists for absentee ballot delivery or force federal overwatch onto state voter rolls represent an unconstitutional overreach of executive power that threatens both state sovereignty and individual voter privacy.
The U.S. Postal Service exists to serve as a reliable, politically neutral public service dedicated to delivering mail securely to every American. Leveraging the postal system to withhold or filter election mail based on federal databases undermines public trust in our democratic institutions and risks disenfranchising eligible voters, including rural residents, elderly citizens, and military personnel serving abroad.
I urge you to take immediate legislative action to safeguard our elections against executive overreach by:
Defending Constitutional Separation of Powers: Passing explicit statutory protections that prevent executive orders from imposing administrative restrictions or pre-approval requirements on federal election mail.
Protecting State Authority: Barring federal agencies from compelling states to submit private voter registration data to centralized federal lists or databases.
Ensuring Postal Independence: Reaffirming the statutory duty of the USPS to process and deliver all official election mail promptly and without administrative obstruction.
Decentralized, state-run election administration is a foundational safeguard of American democracy. I ask that you publicly oppose these administrative actions and co-sponsor legislation to protect the independence of our electoral system and the integrity of the postal service.
Thank you for your time and for your service to our community.
