23 August 2025; CC Representative Foushee, et al. The weaponized military occupation of Washington DC directed by the President and Hegseth is egregious! The president stated this action was needed as crime was out of control. This contradicts the fact that while juvenile crime is a problem in the city, it is actually at a thirty-year low. How is it that other states with cities with much higher crime and murder rates have been sending in their National Guard troops to Washington DC? Is crime really the issue here or this administration’s desire to take control of our capital? National Guard troops, who are now ordered to carry arms by Hegseth, have spoken that they are not sure what they are doing in DC, standing around in public areas apparently with no clear sense of why they are there. Most have no law enforcement training. Is the Capital of our country now under military control? Is this what you want for our country? For your constituents? Most critically, why did the President, when in office his first term, not immediately send in the National Guard when his incited mob broke into, desecrated our Capitol, and attacked and killed police on January 6, 2021? This was a true national emergency. We all know what happened that day and who incited that mob. Along with the National Guard, ICE Agents are roaming the city and continue to illegally abduct people and sending them to concentration camps where from congressional reports the detainees are suffering from appalling, inhumane conditions. Is this what America is coming to? How can we consider ourselves to be the land of the free and home of the brave. Americans may soon no longer respect those in the military who appear to be taking up arms against American citizens. Another violation of their oath. When does this stop? Thank you
