I am writing to you as a constituent to express my strong concern regarding ongoing funding decisions for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), particularly as they relate to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). I urge you to oppose any DHS funding legislation that does not include meaningful, enforceable limitations and oversight on ICE operations. Recent debates in Congress highlight deep and ongoing concerns about ICE’s conduct, including calls for reforms such as requiring judicial warrants for entry, increased transparency, clear identification of officers, and stronger use-of-force standards. These are not radical ideas—they are basic accountability measures consistent with the standards expected of law enforcement agencies across the United States. Congress has both the authority and responsibility to ensure that federal agencies operate within the bounds of the law and respect constitutional rights. The power of the purse is one of the most important tools available to enforce that accountability. Until robust guardrails are in place, I believe it would be irresponsible to continue funding ICE operations without conditions. Any funding bill should include clear, enforceable reforms—not vague promises or future commitments. At the same time, I recognize the importance of DHS’s broader mission, including disaster response, aviation security, and cybersecurity. I encourage you to pursue legislative solutions that protect these critical functions while ensuring that immigration enforcement is conducted lawfully and transparently. Please stand for accountability, constitutional protections, and responsible governance by insisting on meaningful reforms as a condition of DHS funding. Thank you for your time and for your service.
