I am writing to express serious concern regarding the March 31, 2026 presidential announcement of what has been described as the largest forced purge of a federal land management agency in American history.
Federal land management agencies play a critical role in protecting our natural resources, supporting local economies, managing wildfire risks, and ensuring public access to lands that belong to all Americans. Sudden and sweeping personnel actions of this magnitude raise significant concerns about continuity, safety, institutional knowledge loss, and the long-term stewardship of these lands.
I respectfully ask: are you willing to use your authority and leverage as a state official to fully investigate and, if necessary, intervene in this situation?
At a minimum, I urge you to:
- Seek full transparency regarding the scope, justification, and implementation of these staffing changes
- Evaluate the potential impacts on public safety, wildfire response, conservation, and recreation access
- Ensure that any personnel decisions are made lawfully, responsibly, and in the public interest
- Advocate for stability and expertise within agencies tasked with managing our shared natural heritage
This issue is not partisan—it is about responsible governance, public safety, and the preservation of lands that millions of Americans rely on and cherish.
I appreciate your attention to this matter and would value a clear response on how you intend to address it.
