As a lifelong Browns fan and proud Ohio resident, I urge you to reject the proposed use of public funds to help finance a new stadium for the Cleveland Browns. Supporting a team doesn’t mean blindly supporting bad business decisions—and this is one of them.
The request for $600 million in state-backed bonds to subsidize a $2.4 billion stadium is an irresponsible use of taxpayer money. Ohioans are already stretched thin, and our public dollars should be used to improve schools, infrastructure, healthcare, and essential services—not to prop up a private enterprise owned by billionaires.
If the Haslam ownership group cannot afford the upgrades they want, they should find a private solution—or sell the team to someone who can. It is not the public’s job to bail out questionable investments or fund luxury projects under the guise of “economic development.” Decades of research show that stadium deals rarely deliver the promised benefits to local communities.
Being a fan doesn’t mean being a pushover. I support the team, but I refuse to support corporate welfare at the expense of the people of Ohio. Please say no to public stadium funding. Invest in our future—not in vanity projects for private gain.
