Oppose Save Our Bacon

To: Rep. von Haefen, Gov. Stein, Sen. Batch

From: A constituent in Apex, NC

April 30

I am a North Carolina resident in Apex NC with many friends in or studying Ag. I strongly oppose the Save Our Bacon Act amendment in the Farm Bill. This amendment would undermine state and local animal welfare laws and prevent communities from setting humane standards for agricultural products. It does not seem to protect local farmers but rather seems specifically geared towards Smithfield and other massive producers in order to allow them to avoid lawsuits over animal cruelty that we have seen in the last five years. Without the safeguards we have in place, our food is vulnerable to more chemical contamination. North Carolinians should not lose our right to protect animals, consumers, and local values. Please vote no.
