Requiring educational professionals to take an oath is going to push great teachers out of the classroom. We are already overworked and underpaid, and adding another layer of control is unacceptable. The text of SB 430 requires, amongst other things, the promise to "serve as a positive role mode". Now, who determines that? My positive role models are people who care about others, who do social justice, who respect the dignity of every person. Will teachers be fired for being unmarried parents? For "living in sin"? For being openly gay? For posting their personal views on social media? This bill has more to do with shutting down opposing views, and little to do with educational standards. Please kill this bill.
