An Open Letter

To: Sen. Budd, Rep. Ross, Sen. Tillis

From: A constituent in Raleigh, NC

April 6

Re: Urgent matter of stopping Donald Trump from committing war crimes in our name I am a NC constituent writing to express my deep alarm regarding President Trump's recent actions and public statements on Easter Sunday 2026. I am urging you to publicly condemn these statements and take action to uphold the rule of law and international humanitarian standards. On Easter Sunday, the President used Truth Social to broadcast a profanity-laced rant threatening to destroy civilian infrastructure in Iran, specifically mentioning power plants and bridges. Such threats, aimed at objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population, constitute potential war crimes under the Geneva Conventions. Furthermore, that this was done on a major Christian holiday, substituting messages of peace with threats of “Hell,” is deeply alarming to me as a citizen and a Christian. As a member of the U.S. Senate, you took an oath to uphold the Constitution. I am asking you to: - Publicly condemn the President’s rhetoric and his open threats to violate international law. - Reassert Congressional authority over war powers to prevent an unauthorized, illegal war with Iran. - Ensure that the US military does not execute illegal orders targeting civilian infrastructure. Our nation deserves a leader who upholds our democratic values and international obligations, not one who threatens violence on holy days. Your voice is crucial at this moment. I look forward to hearing about what action you intend to take on this urgent matter.
