I am writing to urge you to cosponsor the Universal School Meals Program Act (S. 4518/H.R. 8798), introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), which would ensure that schools are hunger-free nationwide. This bill would create permanent nationwide Healthy School Meals for All, increase reimbursement rates for school meals, end lunch shaming, reimburse schools for meal debt, provide incentives for local food procurement, and expand summer meal and Child and Adult Care Food Program access. Providing funding for free school meals through the Universal School Meals Program Act would be a gamechanger for students, families, and schools. It would help ensure that all students are hunger-free and ready to get the most out of their school day, ease the stress on household food budgets, and reduce administrative work for schools. Thank you in advance for prioritizing the well-being of our nation’s children by cosponsoring the Universal School Meals Program Act.
