The Trump administration's proposed budget increase for ICE of $90 to $175 billion over the next decade is deeply concerning. This influx of funding would enable ICE to unlawfully detain and deport immigrants without due process on an unprecedented scale. Reports indicate ICE is already sending migrants to other countries like El Salvador without notice, in clear violation of constitutional rights. Expanding this unlawful practice by funneling billions more to private contractors and dramatically increasing ICE's personnel would be a stain on our nation's values. Furthermore, the case of Mr. Garcia exemplifies the inhumane consequences of these policies. He was abruptly taken from his home and family and trafficked to the CECOT prison in El Salvador, without any opportunity to make his case or exhaust legal options. No person should be subjected to such treatment, especially without judicial oversight. I urge you to vigorously oppose any budget that increases funding for ICE's mass deportation operations. Instead, we must uphold due process protections and stop enabling human rights abuses through misguided funding priorities. Bring Mr. Garcia home and reject unconstitutional policies that undermine our laws and betray our principles as a nation.
