Oppose ending Telehealth for Medicare

To: Rep. Emmer, Sen. Klobuchar, Sen. Smith

From: A constituent in Andover, MN

February 23

Medicare telehealth services have provided crucial access to care for many seniors, including your parents dealing with serious health issues like cancer. Ending most telehealth coverage on April 1st would create substantial barriers, especially for those who are homebound or lack transportation options. This abrupt change will disrupt ongoing treatment plans and place an undue burden on vulnerable patient populations. The expanded Medicare telehealth flexibilities during the pandemic proved invaluable for connecting patients with their providers safely and conveniently. Maintaining comprehensive telehealth services promotes healthcare equity and aligns with modern care delivery methods that improve outcomes. Telehealth has become an essential component of value-based healthcare. Congress should act swiftly to extend Medicare's current level of telehealth coverage beyond the impending March 31st expiration date. Failing to do so would constitute a major step backwards in healthcare accessibility for America's seniors. Preserving telehealth access is a matter of ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care for our nation's elderly and chronically ill.
