Review Needed: Potential Bias in Department of Education Actions

To: Sen. Cardin, Rep. Trone, Sen. Van Hollen

From: A constituent in Frostburg, MD

April 18

The recent move by the Department of Education to potentially shut down Grand Canyon University (GCU), the largest Christian university in the country, raises concerns about potential bias. The Department's previous imposition of a $37.7 million fine on GCU for alleged misleading information about doctoral program costs is significantly larger than fines given to other universities for failing to address crimes committed by associated individuals. This discrepancy suggests a disproportionate response. It is requested that a thorough, unbiased review of the Department's actions be conducted to ensure fairness and prevent potential discrimination. The review should also consider the impact of such actions on the students and the broader community.
