Within weeks, the Trump administration delayed implementing the Biden-era policy that would have restricted reimbursement for these expensive bandages. The timing and sequence sure look like a textlbook pay-to-play arrangement. This is not mere political access—it directly benefited Extremity Care's bottom line. The company's skin substitutes command extraordinary prices, with some products listed at nearly $12,000 per square inch. Medicare spending on these products exploded from $256 million in 2021 to $10 billion in 2024, with significant portions flowing to Extremity Care. The Biden administration proposed limiting coverage to 17 products backed by rigorous research—a list that excluded Extremity Care's bandages.
