Safeguard worker rights, hold Amazon accountable for labor practices

The right to organize and bargain collectively is a fundamental principle that must be upheld and protected. Amazon's delivery drivers and warehouse workers are demanding better wages, improved safety measures, and job security – reasonable requests that deserve to be heard and addressed. The recent strike and arrests highlight the growing tension between workers seeking fair treatment and a company prioritizing profits over people. It is concerning that Amazon is attempting to evade responsibility by claiming its subcontracted workers are not direct employees. This employment model appears to be a means of denying workers their lawful rights and protections. The preliminary rulings by regional labor board directors that Amazon is a joint employer of these workers are a positive step in holding the company accountable. Amazon's refusal to bargain with the Teamsters union, despite thousands of workers joining its ranks, is an affront to the labor movement and the hard-won gains of American workers. The company's tactics of severing ties with subcontractors after unionization efforts and intimidating workers are unacceptable. I urge you to support legislation that strengthens workers' rights to organize and collectively bargain, and to hold corporations like Amazon accountable when they engage in unfair labor practices. The right to unionize is a pillar of a just society, and no company should be permitted to exploit legal loopholes to deny their workers this fundamental freedom. Protect the ability of workers to advocate for their interests and build power through unions.
