The House Needs New Democratic Leadership and a Transparent Selection Process
To: Rep. McClain Delaney
From: A verified voter in Frostburg, MD
November 4
Dear Representative,
Yesterday's election results sent a message that cannot be ignored. Voters are demanding change, accountability, and a new generation of Democratic leaders prepared to defend democracy and challenge the political status quo. The House Democratic Caucus must respond to that message with meaningful action.
I am writing to urge you to oppose another term for Representative Hakeem Jeffries as House Democratic Leader and support a public, transparent, and accountable process for selecting new leadership.
The American people deserve more than a return to business as usual. They deserve leaders who will confront threats to democratic institutions, defend constitutional principles, challenge harmful policies, and demonstrate the courage to stand firmly behind the values they claim to represent.
Democratic leadership should not be determined through private negotiations and predetermined outcomes. Members of Congress must have an opportunity to consider alternative candidates, evaluate competing visions, and explain their decisions to the constituents they represent.
I urge you to take the following actions:
1. Publicly state your position on Representative Hakeem Jeffries serving another term as House Democratic Leader.
2. Support an open and transparent leadership selection process that allows alternative candidates to present their priorities and qualifications.
3. Advocate for leadership that prioritizes accountability, democratic principles, effective opposition, and meaningful legislative action.
4. Commit to communicating your leadership vote and the reasons behind your decision to your constituents.
Yesterday's election results should be an opportunity for reflection, renewal, and a serious examination of the Democratic Party's direction. Voters who supported Democratic candidates deserve to see their concerns reflected in the decisions their representatives make.
Winning elections is not enough. Elected officials must demonstrate that they have heard the voters and are prepared to respond with meaningful action.
Please explain whether you will support new House Democratic leadership and what steps you will take to ensure that the selection process is transparent and accountable.
The American people deserve leadership that answers to them, not simply to the political establishment.
