Investigate Trump administration's potential insider trading on tariffs

April 10

There are serious concerns about potential insider trading or market manipulation related to President Trump's abrupt announcement to pause sweeping new tariffs. The timing of this announcement, along with Trump's Truth Social post minutes after markets opened saying "THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!!," followed by a massive spike in stock prices, raises significant legal and ethical questions. It appears the President, his family members, and advisors may have had access to non-public information about the tariff policy change that could have informed investment decisions for personal financial gain. This is unacceptable. An independent investigation must be conducted to determine if any government officials engaged in insider trading or illegal financial transactions by trading on this non-public information before it was publicly released. Key evidence should include reviewing periodic transaction reports filed by administration officials familiar with the tariff strategy. The Office of Government Ethics should urgently review these reports and provide full transparency. Maintaining public trust in the integrity of government decision-making, especially decisions with profound economic impacts, is paramount. Allowing the potential exploitation of insider knowledge for personal profit would be a severe breach of ethics and the law. A thorough, impartial inquiry is crucial to address these grave concerns and uphold accountability. The American people deserve answers and reassurance that government policies are being enacted in good faith for the public interest, not personal enrichment.
