An Open Letter

To: Rep. Hinson, Sen. Grassley, Sen. Ernst

From: A constituent in Radcliffe, IA

May 12, 2025

I am writing as a concerned constituent from Radcliffe Iowa, regarding recent reports that President Trump is considering accepting a luxury Boeing 747-8 aircraft, valued at approximately $400 million, from the Qatari royal family. This aircraft is reportedly intended for use as Air Force One during his term and for his presidential library thereafter . This situation raises significant ethical and constitutional questions. The Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution prohibits federal officials from accepting gifts from foreign states without Congressional consent. Even if the aircraft is presented as a gift to the U.S. government, the potential for personal benefit to President Trump, especially post-presidency, is deeply troubling. Furthermore, accepting such a substantial gift from a foreign government could set a concerning precedent and may compromise the integrity of our nation's highest office. It is imperative that we maintain clear boundaries to prevent any undue foreign influence on our elected officials. I urge you to: 1. Initiate or support a thorough investigation into this matter to assess its legality and ethical implications. 2. Advocate for transparency and accountability in any dealings between U.S. officials and foreign governments. 3. Ensure that any acceptance of gifts from foreign entities complies strictly with constitutional provisions and does not serve personal interests. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to your response and to seeing steps taken to uphold the ethical standards of our government.
