Demand Congress restore the Office of the Immigration Detention Ombudsman

To: Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Mfume, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A constituent in Halethorpe, MD

May 8

I oppose the administration’s closure of the office tasked with investigating detention abuse. With poor healthcare conditions and the deaths of eighteen people in ICE detention so far this year, oversight from OIDO is more vital than ever. DHS attributes the closure to a lack of funding in the Homeland Security appropriations bill; however, that bill does not require OIDO’s closure. Please demand the immediate restoration of OIDO to ensure accountability for unethical actions.
