Tonight I'm writing to urge you to oppose the budget reconciliation bill and its harmful cuts to vital government programs. I am most concerned about the provision in the bill that aims to limit federal judges' authority to hold government officials in contempt of court. Clearly this is a move to shield the Trump regime (as it is no longer an administration) from accountability for defying the courts. It's a shocking attempt to end the balance of power of the judicial branch and replace the tripartite authority of our government with a single branch led by a single man, acting as a dictator. This provision alone has the potential to end American democracy as we know it. I am also concerned about the cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and the defunding of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, as well as opposed to the increases in funding for ICE's unlawful mass deportations and the addition of $150 Billion to an already bloated Pentagon budget that funnels money to failed contractors like Elon Musk's SpaceX. Congress should pass a fair and responsible budget that helps working families and communities, not one that slashes our benefits to fund tax cuts and handouts for the wealthy. Thank you for your time and consideration.
