Pass Term Limits: Three House Terms, Two Senate Terms

To: Sen. Kaine, Sen. Warner, Rep. Subramanyam

From: A constituent in Bristow, VA

November 4

Pass term limits for elected officials, specifically three two-year terms for the House and two six-year terms for the Senate. Career politicians who spend decades in office stop representing their constituents and start representing their own job security. That cycle needs to end. The longer someone holds office, the more their priorities shift toward donors, party leadership, and self-preservation. Term limits break that cycle, bring in new perspectives, and remind every officeholder that public service is a temporary trust, not a lifetime appointment. Capping House service at six years and Senate service at twelve is a reasonable, structural fix. I am watching how my elected officials vote on this issue, and I will make my choices at the ballot box accordingly.
