Vote No on the SAVE Act

To: Sen. Curtis, Rep. Maloy, Sen. Lee

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

July 10

Vote no on the SAVE Act. This bill doesn't protect elections — it suppresses them. Noncitizen voting has been a federal crime since 1996, and Utah just audited over 2 million registered voters and found exactly one noncitizen registration and zero instances of noncitizen voting. The problem this bill claims to solve doesn't exist at scale. What does exist is the reality that over 51% of Americans don't have a valid passport, and replacing a lost naturalization certificate costs $1,385. The bill would eliminate online registration used by 42 states and force millions of already-registered Americans to re-prove citizenship in person every time they move or change their name. Kansas tried a state-level version of this and blocked 31,000 eligible citizens from registering before courts struck it down. This bill would do the same thing nationally. Vote no.
