Stop This Ridiculous Attack on Global Health

To: Rep. Sherrill, Sen. Booker, Sen. Kim

From: A verified voter in Boonton, NJ

July 14

I’m writing to urge you to oppose H.R. 1120, the absurd proposal to abolish the Fogarty International Center at NIH. Let’s be clear: this bill is nothing but a political stunt from a lineup of extremist sponsors who have no interest in serious public health policy. Gutting a program that helps the U.S. prevent and respond to global disease threats is beyond reckless—it’s downright idiotic. The Fogarty Center has been critical to training researchers, supporting life-saving studies, and protecting Americans by improving our understanding of emerging diseases. After everything we’ve learned from COVID-19, it’s shocking anyone would think gutting global health research is a good idea. This bill is not about fiscal responsibility. It’s about scoring cheap political points while endangering public health. I expect you to stand firmly against this nonsense and speak out for evidence-based policymaking. Thank you for taking this seriously, because the sponsors clearly aren’t.
