Subject: Strong Opposition to Capitol-Civic Center Pedestrian Bridge
I strongly oppose the proposed $28.5 million pedestrian bridge connecting the State Capitol to Civic Center Park. While a commemorative project is well intentioned, the proposed bridge clearly serves no identifiable need. To the public, the project represents unnecessary spending at a time when Colorado is experiencing a nearly $1 billion budget shortfall.
Beyond its cost, the bridge would permanently alter one of Denver’s most beautiful and historic downtown parks. The proposal is widely unpopular and fails to reflect the values or identity of our state. Celebrating Colorado’s 150th anniversary deserves a legacy project rooted in our culture of independence, practically, and natural beauty not an unnecessary bridge that will go unused.
Respectfully I urge you to reject this proposal and explore more meaningful, fiscally responsible ways to mark this milestone that truly serve all Coloradans.
