Reject Kash Patel nomination, safeguard FBI independence
To: Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd
From: A constituent in Raleigh, NC
November 21
The potential nomination of Kash Patel as FBI director raises significant concerns about the integrity and independence of the Bureau. Patel has consistently undermined investigations into wrongdoing, demonstrating a disturbing pattern of placing loyalty to Trump above fidelity to the rule of law. As a key figure involved in efforts to discredit the Russia probe, and by invoking his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination during the Mar-a-Lago classified documents investigation, Patel has displayed a troubling disregard for accountability. Installing a Trump loyalist with a track record of obstructing justice would severely compromise the FBI's ability to operate free from political interference and undue influence. The Director must be an apolitical guardian of democratic norms and national security interests. Patel's rhetoric attacking the "deep state" and signaling his intent to dismantle barriers between the White House and law enforcement are antithetical to these principles. The FBI plays a vital role in upholding the rule of law and protecting the nation from threats foreign and domestic. Its leadership should inspire public trust, not partisan allegiances. Nominating Patel would be a deeply destabilizing move that prioritizes Trump's personal interests over those of the American people. I urge you to reject any nomination of Kash Patel and insist on a Director committed to independence, transparency, and faithful execution of the Bureau's lawful duties.
