Urgent: Use Your Authority to Stop Unauthorized Military Action Against Iran
To: Rep. Castor, Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott
From: A verified voter in Saint Petersburg, FL
March 2
I am writing to demand immediate action to stop President Trump's unauthorized military strikes on Iran before this escalation spirals beyond recovery. Every hour Congress fails to act, the danger grows. American servicemembers are in harm's way. Iranian civilians are dying. And the administration is dragging this country into a war it never voted for, never authorized, and does not want. The Constitution is clear. The power to declare war belongs to Congress, not the president. By launching sustained military operations without congressional authorization, this administration has violated that foundational check on executive power. If Congress does not respond forcefully and immediately, it sets a precedent that no future president will feel bound by either.
We have been here before. Iraq. Libya. Two decades of regime-change wars that cost trillions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of lives, and whatever moral authority we had left. The American people learned those lessons even if Washington didn't. We will not accept another open-ended war launched on presidential impulse. Cautious statements are not enough anymore. I am asking you to take the following steps now:
1. Publicly demand an immediate halt to further strikes and oppose any escalation without explicit congressional authorization.
2. Fast-track a War Powers Resolution to reassert Congress's authority and require approval for any continued hostilities against Iran.
3. Block funding for unauthorized military operations. Use every appropriations tool you have to prevent taxpayer dollars from financing an illegal war.
4. Compel full transparency. Demand public briefings, intelligence justifications, and a clearly defined legal basis for every action taken. These are not partisan asks. They are constitutional obligations. Every day you wait, the window to prevent a wider war gets smaller.
I don't want a form letter back. I want action. Votes, public statements, and real leadership. Will you uphold your oath and use the full weight of your office to stop this? The clock is running. Please act now.
