Investigate the President for Launching Strikes Without Imminent Threat

To: Sen. Curtis, Rep. Maloy, Sen. Lee

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

March 11

The President launched military strikes against Iran without an imminent threat, violating the legal standards required for such action. I need you to investigate this violation and hold the administration accountable. CNN sources familiar with intelligence confirmed there were no signs Iran planned to strike US forces first unless attacked by Israel or the US. Pentagon officials acknowledged this reality in Sunday briefings to congressional staff. Yet the administration claimed Iran could strike "potentially, preemptively" to justify the attacks. Secretary of State Marco Rubio later admitted the "imminent threat" was merely the belief that Iran would retaliate if attacked by Israel. That's not an imminent threat against the United States. The administration's justifications have collapsed into contradictions within days. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Marco Rubio, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff have provided conflicting accounts about Iran's nuclear enrichment, ICBM capabilities, and whether regime change is a goal. US intelligence contradicted Trump's claim that Iranian ICBMs could soon reach the United States, assessing that capability is still a decade away. These strikes were launched on false pretenses. Congress must investigate whether the President violated the law by initiating military action without the imminent threat required to bypass congressional authorization.
