As a constituent of Connecticut, I am writing to remind you of the solemn oath you took to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. At a time when democratic norms are under attack and authoritarianism is on the rise in our nation, it is more important than ever that our elected representatives—regardless of party—stand firm in their commitment to the rule of law, the separation of powers, and the fundamental rights of all Americans. History will judge the actions of today’s leaders, and I implore you to be on the right side of it. The increasing erosion of democratic institutions, the attacks on the free press, the weaponization of government against political opponents, and the dangerous rhetoric undermining faith in elections are all hallmarks of authoritarianism. No true defender of the Constitution can ignore these warning signs. As a Republican leader in Connecticut, you have a responsibility to put country over party. I urge you to: • Publicly and unequivocally denounce any efforts to subvert free and fair elections, including attempts to override voter decisions or sow distrust in our electoral system. • Reject the normalization of political violence and refuse to support or remain silent on rhetoric that encourages it. • Support bipartisan efforts to reinforce democratic institutions, ensuring that the checks and balances designed by our Founders remain intact. • Commit to truth and accountability, even when doing so may be politically inconvenient. The survival of our democracy depends on leaders who are willing to act with integrity. This is not about partisan politics—this is about the survival of our constitutional democracy. I urge you to consider your legacy and the responsibility that comes with the office you hold. Stand up for what is right before it is too late. I hope to see you take a strong stance in defense of democracy. Please know that your constituents are watching, and we expect principled leadership in this critical moment.
