New Speaker Needed
To: Rep. Garamendi
From: A constituent in Benicia, CA
November 6
I write to ask that you appoint as Speaker of the House a bold, decisive fighter who will work tirelessly to change the direction of this country.
The midterm election results are a mandate from the people to combat corruption, address the cost of living, establish healthcare for all, end the needless and costly war against Iran, stop ICE’s flagrant abuses of the rule of law and the cruelty by for-profit concentration camps, enact a moratorium on data center construction and put the brakes on AI development, cease funding Israel’s war crimes, and take action to reduce the impact of climate change.
Hakeem Jeffries has proven that that he is not up to the challenges required at this vital historical inflection point. He is beholden to his big-money donors, and therefore, not prioritizing the needs of the working people and their families in the US. This moment demands a leader who doesn’t work for the interests of foreign entities, multinational corporations, or billionaires.
I suggest Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Summer Lee, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Ro Khanna, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Jesús Garcia, or Rep. Greg Casar to lead the party. None take AIPAC donations, all are progressive and feisty, and all are people of color (to avoid the optics of removing a Black man from power).
Business as usual can no longer be tolerated in Congress. The choice is literally between democracy and fascism, and drastic actions need to be taken to wrestle control from Donald Trump and the oligarchs. We are approaching a second American Revolution. The first one was not led by centrists. Neither will this one.
Please appoint a strong fighter to lead the party. That person is not Hakeem Jeffries.
Thank you for your time.
