Don’t send Ohio Guardsmen to DC

To: Gov. DeWine

From: A constituent in Coshocton, OH

August 17

I am writing to express my deep outrage and disappointment at your decision to send members of the Ohio National Guard to Washington, D.C. Ohioans rely on the Guard to serve and protect our communities here at home, not to be dispatched for political theater or to support the ambitions of those in Washington. Would you be comfortable if President Trump chose to federalize the National Guard and send armed troops into Ohio against our will? If you would not accept such an intrusion here, why would you authorize our Guard to be used in this way in another state? It is especially troubling that this decision comes after Trump has already caused real harm to Ohio. By spreading reckless and hurtful lies about Springfield, he has endangered our residents and painted our communities in a false and damaging light. At a time when Ohio needs leadership that protects our reputation and strengthens our communities, you have instead diverted our Guard to serve elsewhere. Governor, the people of Ohio deserve your loyalty and your protection first. I urge you to reconsider how you are using our Guard and to remember that their primary duty is to Ohioans, not to the political agendas of Washington.
