NorthWestern Energy's justification for this rate hike - to fund fossil fuel-based infrastructure, including a new methane gas plant near Laurel - is particularly concerning. This approach ignores more affordable and sustainable clean energy alternatives, despite Montana's significant potential for wind and solar energy development. It's worth noting that Montanans currently endure the fourth-highest overall energy costs in the nation.
