An Open Letter

To: Rep. Liccardo

From: A verified voter in Montara, CA

September 20, 2025

I’m appalled that you voted to honor the life and legacy of Charles “Charlie” James Kirk. As AOC said “We should be clear about who Charlie Kirk was: a man who believed that the Civil Rights Act that granted Black Americans the right to vote was a ‘mistake,’ who after the violent attack on Paul Pelosi claimed that ‘some amazing patriot out there’ should bail out his assailant, and accused Jews of controlling ‘not just the colleges – it’s the nonprofits, it’s the movies, it’s Hollywood, it’s all of it.’ His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans.” It’s possible to decry gun violence without approving - yuck, honoring - the terrible harm that this person inflicted upon Americans, including your constituents, including me. Your action isn’t comity or civility, you should know there is no appeasing the right-wing mob, this is simply cowardice and a betrayal. Do better.
