Trump’s FY2027 budget should be rejected. It asks the public to absorb deep cuts to essential domestic programs while pouring a record $1.5 trillion into military spending. The administration is proposing a 10 percent cut to non-defense discretionary spending, alongside cuts or eliminations affecting LIHEAP, NIH, NOAA programs, FEMA non-disaster grants, and TSA screening. Those are not abstract line items. They touch heating assistance, medical research, disaster readiness, public safety, and the basic capacity of government to protect people’s lives. That alone would be reason for opposition. In the current context, it is even harder to defend. As the administration escalates militarily toward Iran and Congress struggles to impose meaningful limits on unauthorized hostilities, this budget would shift still more money toward force while hollowing out the systems people depend on at home. Congress should not reward that imbalance. Budgets reveal priorities more honestly than speeches do. This one makes room for militarism while asking working people to accept less support, less protection, and more precarity. Energy assistance, scientific research, emergency resilience, and public health are being treated as expendable. They are not. A government that cannot find room for those things is failing at its most basic responsibilities. Please vote no on this budget. Oppose any additional funding that would deepen unauthorized military action. Reassert Congress’s authority over war and appropriations, and insist on a budget that protects people here at home instead of weakening public systems to fund further escalation abroad. Congress is not meant to watch executive overreach from the sidelines. It has both the power and the obligation to intervene.
