Urgent Demand for Congressional Investigation into DOGE I urge a formal investigation into the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a shadow entity operating under the Trump administration. Despite claiming it is not an official agency, DOGE has fired federal employees, directed operations, accessed federal data, and steered contracts—many benefiting Elon Musk’s companies. Here’s the deeper issue: DOGE keeps shifting its identity to avoid accountability. At times, it claims to be a government agency with authority over personnel and operations. Other times, it insists it’s just a group of advisors—so it can dodge transparency laws. They say Elon Musk is the head—until they say he isn’t. These contradictions are not just confusing; they are deliberate attempts to mislead the public, evade the law, and consolidate unchecked power. Despite its name, DOGE has done nothing to reduce waste or improve efficiency. It has done the opposite. Its reckless interference has disrupted public services, endangered lives, and created chaos. Meanwhile, a small circle of billionaires appears to be enriching themselves through inside access, privatized data, and narrative control. These actions erode public trust, threaten veterans and working-class Americans, and mock the principles of democratic governance. This conduct may violate multiple federal laws: • FOIA (5 U.S.C. § 552): DOGE exercises federal power and should be subject to transparency. • Federal Records Act (44 U.S.C. §§ 3101–3107): If it directs policy, it must preserve records. • Federal Vacancies Reform Act (5 U.S.C. §§ 3345–3349d): DOGE operatives may be exercising official power without lawful appointment. • Anti-Deficiency Act (31 U.S.C. § 1341): Use of federal funds/resources without appropriation is unlawful. • Conflict of Interest (18 U.S.C. § 208): Members like Tyler Hassen may be influencing policy for personal financial gain. • FISMA (44 U.S.C. § 3551 et seq.): Unauthorized access or transfer of federal data may violate cybersecurity law. • Hatch Act (5 U.S.C. §§ 7321–7326): DOGE’s politically motivated activity while federally connected may be illegal. DOGE is not improving government—it’s destabilizing it. The American people are being denied transparency while private actors exert dangerous, unregulated influence across federal institutions. Congress must act now. Launch a full investigation into DOGE’s legal authority, personnel, contracts, data access, funding, and compliance with federal law. This is not just about government overreach—it’s about protecting the rule of law, democracy, and the public trust.
