I’m writing today with deep concern about the proposed cuts to Ohio’s public libraries. Please, don’t cut Ohio’s public libraries. Don’t cut my library. These institutions are essential cornerstones of our communities.
I strongly urge you to restore the Public Library Fund to 1.75%, as originally proposed in Governor DeWine’s budget. This funding is vital to maintaining the services, programs, and resources that Ohioans rely on every single day.
For me, the library is more than just a building full of books—it’s a lifeline. I remember bringing my children there for storytime when they were toddlers, watching their eyes light up as they discovered the magic of reading. Now, as an adult, the library remains a place where I can access technology, attend educational events, and connect with my community. It’s where teens find mentorship, where job seekers get help with applications, and where seniors find companionship and purpose.
Libraries change lives. They create safe, inclusive spaces for everyone—no matter their background, age, or income. Cutting their funding would cut off opportunity, equity, and support for thousands of Ohioans.
Please protect this vital resource. Fully fund our libraries by restoring the Public Library Fund to 1.75%.
