Shut Down the Williamsport ICE Detention Facility I'm calling on you to take immediate action to shut down the 825,000 square foot ICE detention facility being built in Williamsport. This facility has no place in Washington County or anywhere in Maryland. Washington County officials have been caught lying to constituents. They claimed they had little to no communication with DHS about this project, but MPIA documents reveal they've been coordinating VIP visits and extending invitations to Donald Trump and JD Vance to tour the site. Meanwhile, they cut the microphone and removed NAACP President Taj Smith from a public meeting when he raised legitimate concerns about lost tax revenue, since the federal government doesn't pay property taxes on this warehouse. This pattern of deception and silencing civil rights leaders while rolling out the red carpet for federal officials is unacceptable. The county has refused to answer constituent questions for months while secretly facilitating this detention center. I expect you to use every tool at your disposal to block this facility. Investigate the county's coordination with DHS, demand transparency, and stand against this expansion of mass detention infrastructure in our state. Maryland should not be complicit in this operation.
