The proposed cuts to Medicaid in H.R. 1 would have devastating consequences for millions of Americans and the entire healthcare system. The $200 billion in cuts to provider taxes alone would force states to drastically reduce Medicaid benefits, coverage, and provider payments. This would cause at least 7.8 million enrollees to lose their healthcare coverage entirely. Many rural hospitals, nursing homes, and physician practices that rely on these funds would be forced to close, reducing access to care for all patients. The bill also makes it harder for students to pursue medical careers at a time when we already face critical physician shortages. Instead of dismantling this vital safety net that serves 80 million vulnerable Americans, we urge you to protect and strengthen Medicaid to ensure continued access to affordable healthcare for those who need it most. Cutting Medicaid is harmful and short-sighted - we must prioritize people over profits in our healthcare system.
