H.Res.59

To: Rep. DeGette

From: A verified voter in Denver, CO

January 26

Today, I was made aware of ‘H.Res.59 - Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the sermon given by the Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde at the National Prayer Service on January 21st, 2025, at the National Cathedral was a display of political activism and condemning its distorted message.’ I am the pastor of Evergreen Christian Church, but I reside in Denver. As a minister, the message that was given by Bishop Budde was very much in line with the gospel and the ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. A message that seeks mercy for those in need is not only a faithful representation of Jesus’s ministry, but is absolutely a valid expression from the pulpit when one of the most powerful people in the country is in the pews. If I were given the opportunity to preach to, and even serve communion, to the current president of the USA, I would gladly take the opportunity to seek mercy for those in need, as well. As that is the point of the gospels. It is important that ministers be able to speak freely from the pulpit, especially when they do not endorse candidates. To silence a preacher of the gospel is to begin the descent into fascism and authoritarianism. The soul of the country depends on ministers being able to preach faithfully. Your opposition to this resolution would be appreciated. If you would like to have conversations with myself and some of my colleagues regarding this or any other legislation/matters, it would be my honor to help facilitate that. My phone number is 402-770-0169 and my email address is revproffitt@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and your service to this country.
