Protect American privacy- protect HIPAA today!

To: Rep. Kean, Sen. Kim, Sen. Booker

From: A verified voter in Budd Lake, NJ

April 9

In the early 2000s, HIPAA was passed into law. This privacy act was intended to keep prying eyes out of American’s private healthcare records and reserved access to only their treating doctors, treating staff, the patient, and a limited list of persons personally approved and signed off on by the patients. Recent reports state that the Trump administration does not believe that HIPAA applies to them. They have requested the medical records of nearly 8 million Americans and their families covered by 65 different insurance companies. Specifically, they want to know what conditions they have, what treatments they have received, and what medications and prescriptions they have taken. This list of Americans is mainly composed of federal workers. No one seems to be speaking on what they could possibly do with these records. This may be even more terrifying than Trump’s desire to have access to department of motor vehicle records and state voter rolls. In a very Nazi-esque country, medical records could be used to determine value and usefulness of individual citizens to the regime. Say no to the prying eyes of the administration. Protect American privacy laws. Protect medical privacy. Protect AMERICANS now!
