Conflict of interest laws apply to all of us. That includes the president of the United States. Laws about conflicts of interest apply even to the appearance of conflicts, not just to actual impropriety. That is why we have disclosure laws. And yet there isn't just the appearance of impropriety with Trump. No, he is blatantly profiting from stock trades to make money while in office. What's more, he sued the federal government after appointing someone to the DOJ that would follow his lead. The federal government has now settled a law suit with the president allowing him control of over a billion dollars to hand out to anyone he sees fit. Criminals will be getting this money. He can curry favor from whomever he wants. He doesn't need to be bribed because he will do the bribing. On January 6th he asked people to attack the Congress. He asked them to attack you. Now he intends to pay his private army with our money. With the taxes I paid. With the taxes the people of Iowa and the rest of the country have paid. Conflict of interest is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of impropriety. This president who made a big deal about not taking a salary.... Why should he when he gets golden planes from Saudi Arabia and can make millions from manipulating the stock market? Over and over again you have put party over what is right, enabling the president to make a mockery of our democracy. He has damned our farmers to asking for bailouts by causing our trading partners to turn to other countries for the crops we grow. Every week people have to decide if they can afford gas or food because of the illegal war he is waging. He has sullied our monuments and institutions by splashing gaudy colors and his own name on them. He has waged war on our own people in our own cities jailing and killing US citizens in his fight to "secure the borders." Each time I have written to you, you have turned away from his crimes, given reasons why they were ok, and things just keep getting worse. What has the country become? What have you become? When will you stop looking away and rein in his corruption? I say now is the time. Now is the time to stand up and exercise the authority the Constitution gives you to balance once more the scales of justice. Use your voice and your legislative authority to bring us back from authoritarianism to the democracy we once were. Impeach Trump.
