Veto HB2102 and HB2103 - Water Hauling Bills Fail Rural Arizona
To: Gov. Hobbs
From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ
April 13
I'm asking you to veto HB2102 and HB2103. These bills, sponsored by Gail Griffin, would create new infrastructure for water hauling in active management areas without addressing the real threats to rural Arizona's water supply.
Rural communities face serious water concerns. Residents need protection from industrial agriculture and data centers draining their aquifers and threatening their wells and property values. HB2102 and HB2103 do nothing to solve these problems. Instead, they create workarounds that could make it easier for large water users to operate in areas already designated for aggressive groundwater management.
Active management areas exist because these regions are at risk of running dry. Enabling water hauling infrastructure doesn't conserve groundwater or protect rural wells. It just moves water around while the underlying crisis gets worse. Rural Arizonans deserve real solutions that prioritize their water security over industrial interests. These bills aren't it. Veto them.
