Accountability, Constitutional Reform, and a Democracy That Serves the People To Democratic leaders and elected officials: Our democracy is under serious strain. The answer cannot be to look away, wait for the next election, or assume that the damage will somehow correct itself. We need accountability, meaningful oversight, and reforms that protect the country from abuses of power—now and in the future. Where credible evidence of wrongdoing exists, investigate it. Follow the facts, uphold the law, and respect due process. No president, administration, or powerful individual should be above the law. Accountability is not about revenge. It is about restoring public trust and ensuring that the rules apply equally to everyone. We also need structural reforms that make future abuses harder: Limit presidential power. Strengthen congressional oversight and enforce constitutional checks and balances. No president should be able to treat public office as a personal instrument. Address financial conflicts. Require meaningful financial disclosure, prevent self-dealing, and establish enforceable restrictions on stock trading by elected officials and senior government leaders. Require transparency. Establish clear, consistent disclosure requirements for presidential finances, conflicts of interest, and relevant medical information. Reduce the influence of money. Reform campaign finance so billionaires and corporations cannot exert outsized control over elections and public policy. Protect the public from powerful private interests. Scrutinize the influence of figures such as Elon Musk and ensure that government decisions involving technology, contracts, and regulation serve the public—not private fortunes. Address the costs of data centers and AI. Require transparency and accountability for their effects on energy, water, infrastructure, communities, and the environment. Innovation should not mean shifting costs onto the public. Protect elections and democratic institutions. Strengthen safeguards against intimidation, interference, corruption, and efforts to undermine legitimate election results. These are not partisan concerns. They are basic requirements for a functioning democracy. The public deserves leaders who defend the Constitution, enforce the law fairly, and put the country ahead of personal or political interests. I am asking you to act: pursue credible investigations, use your oversight authority, support meaningful constitutional and legislative reforms, and communicate clearly with the public about what you are doing. Silence and delay only deepen the loss of trust. We need principled, sustained action to restore accountability and build a government that serves the people.
