I am writing to express my deep condemnation of your support for the Trump-backed budget proposal. Your vote in favor of this fiscal plan is not only indefensible—it is a willful betrayal of the economic and democratic interests of your constituents. Let’s be clear: this budget is not about “fiscal responsibility” or “growth.” It is a performative assault on working families, a windfall for the ultra-wealthy, and a continuation of the reckless, chaotic policymaking that has defined the Republican Party under Trump’s leadership. The Trump-era tax cuts—extended and expanded under this budget—are a case in point. The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act added nearly $2 trillion to the national debt, with 83% of the benefits flowing to the top 1% by 2027 (Tax Policy Center). Despite claims of boosting investment and wages, corporate stock buybacks hit record highs, while wages remained stagnant and wealth inequality soared. You and your colleagues now double down on these failed strategies while gutting essential programs that actually support the middle class and vulnerable populations. Meanwhile, your budget slashes funding for public health, education, food assistance, and housing—all while increasing Pentagon spending beyond even what the military has requested. Billions continue to be funneled into bloated defense contracts and unaccountable overseas operations, while domestic infrastructure crumbles and rural hospitals close. Is this your idea of “America First”? You support this under the guise of “tough choices.” But you are not making tough choices—you are making cruel ones, targeting those with the least power while enriching those with the most. This is not governing. It is appeasement. The hypocrisy is staggering. You claim to support families, yet vote to eliminate child tax credits. You speak of border security, but ignore the billions wasted on performative stunts and failed contracts like the private border wall schemes riddled with fraud. You champion “states’ rights,” then endorse federal overreach when it serves your ideological agenda. What’s worse, your support for this budget signals complicity in a broader project: to dismantle the administrative state and concentrate power among the few, while sowing division and deflecting accountability. You are not leading—you are following. And you are following a man who has shown contempt for rule of law, governance norms, and even basic decency. I urge you to reflect not only on your policy choices, but on your political courage. History will not look kindly on those who enabled this regression under the false flag of conservatism. You were not elected to be a rubber stamp for Trumpism. You were elected to represent us. This budget does not reflect the needs, values, or priorities of your constituents. It reflects a deep and growing rot in American political leadership—one you are now part of.
