An Open Letter

To: Sen. Budd, Rep. Foushee, Sen. Tillis

From: A constituent in Holly Springs, NC

February 5

Elon Musk's hijacking of the federal government must be stopped. He is not a federal employee and neither are the tech guys who he brought in to glean Treasury data. President Trump is free to listen to whoever's advice he wishes, but he cannot give unilateral access to anyone like he has given to Musk. DOGE is not an official government department, which would require an act of Congress. Trump is systematically taking power away from Congress, the voice of the people. Senators and Representatives must take a firm stand and remind President Trump he does not have the power to allow his friends access federally protected data. This is an abuse of executive office power, and if Congress does not stand up for itself, it will find its own authority stripped away to impotence. As your constituent, I urge you to take a stand and remind Musk and Trump that there are checks to the power of the executive office, and Congress will not allow its authority to be undermined.
