I am a Hoosier who has lived in this state for my whole life, as have both sides of my family. I love living in Indiana and I love all of the people in my community and in this state that make it feel like home.
I recently learned that an ICE facility is going to be using Camp Atterbury to detain and imprison people in our state, and I am alarmed and disgusted. We have already seen ICE agents using inappropriate levels of force, arresting and detaining American citizens and legal residents with no cause, and even illegally trafficking them to other countries.
Although I support removing actually dangerous people from our communities, many residents that are arrested by ICE are being detained and threatened with deportation for offenses as small as a traffic ticket or minor shoplifting. This includes VETERANS, who have been promised legal residency and citizenship in exchange for their service but who are deported by the thousands every year.
I am completely opposed to the use of Camp Atterbury as an ICE concentration camp, and completely oppose ANY ICE camps being constructed in Indiana. I do not pay my taxes for them to be used to terrorize, capture, and imprison fellow Hoosiers.
I don't care what country a person was born in or where their parents came from, there is absolutely NO reason to treat any human being the way that ICE has been treating people in this country.
Please find your heart and develop some empathy and do not allow any new ICE detention centers or camps to be built in Indiana.
