Demanding Accountability for Dangerous Rhetoric

To: Rep. Wittman, Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Midlothian, VA

June 16, 2025

Donald Trump’s statement on Truth Social calling Democrats “sick of mind” and accusing them of hating our country is not just inflammatory—it’s a deliberate, authoritarian tactic to dehumanize political opposition. This isn’t a partisan jab. This is classic fascist rhetoric. And if our representatives don’t name it and fight it with everything they have, they are complicit. This is how democracies die—not all at once, but piece by piece, when hate speech from a would-be autocrat is allowed to go unchecked under the guise of “just talk.” We cannot afford to normalize this. The former president is not a fringe blogger shouting into the void. He is the GOP front-runner who incited an insurrection and now continues to sow violence and division with every post. I demand that you publicly condemn these statements for what they are: a dangerous escalation in the rhetoric of political violence. No more polite avoidance. No more “both sides” hedging. No more cowardice. Call this what it is and take meaningful action to ensure he never sets foot in the Oval Office again. Fight like the future of this country depends on it—because it does.
