Vote No on the Congressional Review Act Resolution Protect our public lands
To: Sen. Scott, Sen. Graham

February 19
Please vote NO on the Congressional Review Act Resolution.
An upcoming vote on H.J. Res 140, a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution is expected in the US Senate soon.
A yes vote would overturn the 2023, 20-year ban on mining near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota.
The resolution seeks to allow sulfide-ore copper mining on 225,000 acres in the Superior National Forest.
Trump has been trying to grant a Chilean mining company the right to mine this protected area, despite the negative impacts it would have on the land and environment over time.
This gives the appearance of being very self serving, since Trump's family have close ties to the CEO of the Chilean mining company. It shows a shocking disregard for the dire impacts it would have on the state, the environment, and the people who depend on the land for their livelihood.
While there would initially be jobs for locals, much of the work would be automated, leaving only a handful of jobs available for locals in the end. The profits from this venture would largely go into a foreign company and its investors.
Minnesota, like many other states, bring in a large amount of revenue from small businesses that work in outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, hiking, etc..
These jobs, which are mostly small mom and pop businesses, would be on the losing end of a mining deal. Outdoor recreation is not only at the heart of business and culture in Minnesota, but it actively encourages protection of the land.
Aside from the fact that this would be devastating for Minnesota, it would set a dangerous precedent that puts all US public lands at risk.
