We need a moratorium on data center construction before more are authorized

To: Sen. Cortez Masto, Rep. Lee, Sen. Rosen

From: A verified voter in Las Vegas, NV

March 2

We need a moratorium on data center construction before more are authorized. It has already been reported in the news that -with minimal research- it is already known that data center energy consumption strains local resources and negatively impacts the environment. Further research is needed before it gets out of hand and potentially causes permanent damage to our environment. Back in 2025, it was reported in the news that, 'more than 230 groups have signed on to a letter calling for a national pause on new data centers that power AI.' Reach out to Senator Bernie Sanders for further details of his Moratorium proposal, publicly support and co-sponsor his or any other legislation calling for a halt in data center construction. There needs to be a strong structure of regulation, transparency, as well as enforceable reasonable, and logical accountability for the long-term impact of their existence. Just because we can doesn't mean we should construct data centers.
