Demand Investigation Into Military Actions and Support War Powers Resolution

To: Sen. Curtis, Rep. Maloy, Sen. Lee

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

March 6

I am writing to demand a full congressional investigation into the Trump administration's military actions in Iran and to urge you to support any future war powers resolutions that come before Congress. The facts surrounding this conflict are deeply troubling. Six U.S. soldiers have been killed and 18 seriously injured, while over 1,200 Iranian civilians have died including 176 children. U.S. military investigators believe American forces were likely responsible for striking the Shajarah Tayyebeh girls' school, killing over 175 people including dozens of children aged 7 to 12. Satellite images show this school was separated from a nearby military base by a wall since 2016, raising serious questions about targeting decisions. The U.S. Navy sank the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena in international waters off Sri Lanka, killing at least 87 sailors with 61 missing. This ship was returning from the MILAN 2026 international naval exercise in which both the U.S. and Iran participated. The exercise required ships to be unarmed, meaning the U.S. likely knew the Dena carried no ammunition when it attacked. Only 25% of Americans support this war according to Reuters/Ipsos polling, with 56% believing Trump is too quick to use military force. Despite this, the House voted 219 to 212 against a war powers resolution that would have limited these military actions. The American people deserve accountability and congressional oversight of military operations that are being conducted without their support. I urge you to demand answers about the targeting decisions that led to the deaths of schoolchildren, the attack on an unarmed vessel in international waters, and the overall strategy behind this conflict. Congress must reassert its constitutional authority over matters of war. Will you commit to supporting future war powers resolutions and calling for a full investigation into these military actions?
