Soon after inauguration, the Trump administration disbanded the FEMA National Advisory Council. This coincided with President Trump’s visits to disaster sites in N orth Carolina and Los Angeles. Weather-related destruction is not partisan – nor should our respon se be. When disaster strikes, we all suffer. More recently, the administration abruptly eliminated FEMA’s Buildi ng Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program. This move leaves states, especially coastal ones, more vulnerable and less able to prepare in the months ahead. Layoffs have left NWS satellite offices so understaffed that some c an’t operate around the clock.
