Prioritizing Economic Stability: Support the "An Ohio You Can Afford" Package
To: Gov. DeWine, Sen. DeMora, Rep. Russo
From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH
April 20
As a resident of Ohio and a consistent voter, I am writing to urge your full support for the "An Ohio You Can Afford" legislative package.
While much of the recent debate in the Statehouse has focused on performative social mandates, the reality for Ohioans is an escalating cost-of-living crisis. We need the General Assembly to pivot toward common-sense economic solutions that provide tangible relief.
I am specifically asking you to prioritize:
- The Ohio State Reinsurance Program: Seventeen other states—both red and blue—already use reinsurance to lower individual health insurance premiums by up to 33%. By establishing this program, Ohio can stabilize our healthcare market and save families thousands of dollars without raising taxes.
- The Residential Development Loan Program: Ohio is facing a housing supply crisis. This program would catalyze the construction of "missing middle" housing—like duplexes and townhomes—increasing supply and making homeownership attainable again for working families.
Ohio cannot thrive if our workforce is priced out of their own neighborhoods. I ask that you move these bills out of committee and focus on the work that actually helps Ohioans afford to live and work in the state we love.
